Time to transform: Virtual production at the Hyperbowl

Why

Software development is the driving issue in the mobility sector. Volkswagen is therefore bundling the competencies of the Group’s Car.Software.Org (CSO) in a new company called CARIAD Technologies GmbH. A symbolic setting was sought for the launch of the new corporate design and name, which would provide content appeal and emotional engagement for employees as well as allowing interaction – despite all restrictions on events during the Covid-19 pandemic. The event tagline: »Time to transform«.

How

In the virtual production studio at the Hyperbowl in Munich, we bring the new corporate design out into the open for the first time. This technically complex event in an Unreal Studio allows us to match the content. The AR show with its interactive elements gives a tangible impression of the look and feel and the pioneering spirit that CARIAD will use to inspire and influence the mobility sector in the long term.

What

In the mix of virtual and real worlds, the new corporate design and the new name went live on the screens together with 4,000 employees. In a fusion of the real and the digital, CARIAD employees experienced the event and its AR-enriched presentations, including interactive components. Among other features, employees had the opportunity to enter their name via their mobile device, which was then visible to everyone in the new CD in the event’s virtual space, presenting the employee as part of the CARIAD family – an unforgettable moment.

In a fusion of reality and virtual reality, employees at their monitors at home were actively integrated into the event. Using their mobile devices, colleagues could enter their name in a platform created for the launch event at Cariad.Codes. Two interactions then took place, which gave all the participants goosebumps: The lettering was transformed into the glyph typography of the new corporate design. The name then became visible to all employees on the virtual stage. This instantly created a sense of community and removed the digital distance.
